Paper shredders range in price from the cheapest being around $20 all the way up to $10,000+ for the most expensive paper shredders. Here are a list of my favorite cheap paper shredders, first is my favorite, last is still great for the price.

1. Paper Shredder Scissors
While their almost a novelty item, these paper shredder scissors will do exactly what you expect them to do – cut paper into strips. While strip cut paper scissors aren’t exactly the best idea, you can turn the paper and make these paper shredding scissors cut into confetti or a cross cut pretty easily. They will make a mess everywhere so make sure and do it over a trash can.

2. Aurora AS618SB 6 Sheet Strip Cut Paper Shredder
This little shredder is a great addition to any home or home office. While it’s small and compact, it’s meant for small jobs once or twice a day. Don’t plan to use this all day for shredding, and don’t expect to shove all of your mail into it. For around $20 it’s hard to beat the Aurora AS618SB paper shredder. 3. Black & Decker CC800 8 Sheet Paper Shredder
This little Black & Decker shredder is one of the most expensive shredders on our list of cheap paper shredders, but it’s features make it a great addition to any home office. The CC800 paper shredder can shred up to 8 sheets, credit cards and staples, and it shreds them in a cross cut. Most of the other shredders on our list are strictly strip cut. Cross cut adds security by making it harder to put your pieces back together. While not impossible, if you’re shredding a full 4 gallon basket full, you’re making it very tough for anyone to steal your identity out of your trash can.

4. Royal CX66 Paper Shredder
If you’re looking for a no-frills paper shredder, the Royal CX66 is for you. It’s a bare bones cross cut shredder. It doesn’t have the biggest basket or the largest motor (6 sheets), but it gets the job done, and it’s reliable. This one is not sold in stores, so you’ll have to buy it online.

With a large corporate store, you get a lot of technical support and will always be able to deal with someone if you have a problem. You won’t have any trouble returning a defective paper shredder to the store if it’s during the return time or getting warranty repairs if you’re under warranty. Apart from that, Staples paper shredders are generally pretty cheap. Some of the cons of when you buy a paper shredder from Staples is quality. Staples brand shredders have been known to be really hit and miss on quality. Large stores selling a lot of different store-brand products are known to suffer quality control issues. This is no different with Staples. I have owned two Staples paper shredders and have had good experiences with both of them.

Ativa has been manufacturing paper shredders for many years. Because of this experience Ativa paper shredders tend to be long lasting while still priced at a reasonable price point. Two years ago, I bought an Ativa paper shredders for $69.99 at Office Depot, and it’s still running strong. For my office we bought a $300 Fellowes paper shredder that ended up lasting about 8 months. Fellowes is a great brand, but this is just to prove that price isn’t the only factor when choosing a paper shredder.

Fellowes didn’t pull any punches with their latest Fellowes Powershred W-11C paper shredder. This home office sized paper shredder can handle up to 11 pages at a time and shreds them down to 5/32″ x 2″ per piece! The intake is a nice and large 9 inches for putting those oversized pieces of junk mail in. Credit cards, staples and some paper clips will go right through the Fellows W11C paper shredder with ease.
